Case study: A customer’s story from selection to completion

Cathedral limestone paving

One customer gives an insight into his stone journey

Visiting the Newbury showroom

Andrew met and welcomed us at the showroom in Newbury and was a very helpful guide to what was an extremely impressive, beautifully presented ‘see & sample’ area. He led us past all sorts of fabulous materials towards a few of our initial choices and added many interesting points to help steer us through what can be a very overwhelming planning process.

In our case, we saw and selected Cathedral Limestone for about 50m2 of outside terracing to be laid around our new extension. In addition, following my wife’s keen demand for the very best in old English stone for the front steps and front door entrance paths to our old (17th century) house – Andrew patiently offered us his truly exceptional old and reclaimed York stone for consideration.

OK let’s be frank, no one can get brilliant York stone cheap and certainly the material we ended up with was far from low-priced; but we (like most of us) wanted great value not cheap. So having shopped around a bit I was very happy to accept Andrew’s very fair price and ordered 26m2 of old York – right there while looking at the sample.

Delivery and installation

The limestone was delivered in smaller vehicles (as requested) so we could get the stone close to our house and was in well-packed small pallets which were easier to move and select from. The area surrounding the new orangery and down to the garden steps is perfect and blends in well with both garden and new build.

The York came separately in four pallets and was provided (as York is) in a selection of sizes from half a few foot square to about a square yard, perhaps more! Thicknesses varied a lot, from about 35mm right up to a massive 70mm thick. BUT we have to say the efforts were worth it as the stone is simply spectacular. In the end you have to ask yourself: ”Is the York stone really worth the heavy cost?” You bet!

Thanks to the team

Many thanks to Samantha who very efficiently managed the various packing and delivery services, which was not easy I know; and of course Andrew for being so helpful from start to finish, and keeping so well to the brief and to the specific details of the purchase.

Choosing to lay quality stone is not a thing to take lightly – after all, one assumes it will be there a long time and you will want to feel happy and proud of what you create in or around your home.
So, be smart and get solid professional help and advice before buying stone.

Andrew and his team have started what I honestly feel is a very sensible and valuable consulting service – to provide good guidance and advice on stone selection to those of us that want to get it right.
The showroom is a must as it will help you see and feel the options ahead of your project. NSC provide a range of surfaces that I am sure will meet the demands and needs of all sorts of home and business owners.

“I am delighted to recommend Andrew and NSC and without any reservation, we have already passed on our opinions and we will be quick to re-visit Natural Stone Consulting when the next project comes up (which may be more York for a garden pathway).”
