Zellige tiles hand-made in Morocco from natural clay

Zellige tiles in swimming pool

Decorative tiles handmade in Morocco, Zellige tiles are one of a kind and that is why we (and many of you) are so taken by them.

It is also why we have added them to our range of products.

Made from natural clay by expert craftsmen, their irregularity is their charm. From white through to black and almost all colours in between, these small yet seriously effective tiles will create a sense of wonder in any space.

The wide range of vibrant shades and muted tones available in Zellige tiles mean they are highly versatile in both residential and commercial settings. Whether for a calming spa, a relaxing bathroom, an extraordinary kitchen splashback or a statement feature wall, the possibilities are endless. Along with the most common uses in bathrooms and kitchens, Zellige tiles have been used to clad bars, kitchen islands, sinks, vanity units, tables, swimming pools and much more.

Made in Fez, Morocco, the natural clay tiles are shaped and then fired in an oven. Colour pigments and a glaze are then added before a final firing to secure the colour and finish.

No two tiles are the same thanks to the fact they are hand-made and this is all part of their unrivalled charm. The surface will feature small undulations which catch the light, their edges can be uneven and their colours will vary from tile to tile.

All of these characteristics work together to create a finish brimming with interest and sophistication without the uniformity of a machine-made product.

As well as the many translucent colours available, Zellige tiles are also produced in metallic and pearlescent finishes including bronze and silver through to dark gunmetal grey or burnt copper.

The most popular format sold is the single colour, 10x10cm square tile but a number of other shapes, sizes and patterns are also possible.

We recommend installing the Zellige tiles as close together as possible, to form joins that are almost invisible. Once in place in the adhesive, the tiles can then be skimmed over with a thin grout before wiping away the excess to create an almost grout-less look.
